Car Seats
Nothing is more of a pleasure for a parent than transporting their child from activity to activity, watching them grow fondly. Unfortunately, children go through several stages of their life being quite small. This is where a good car seat comes into play.
A good car seat should have a safety lifespan of a decade, bare minimum. This will allow your children to grow too large to need it (unless of course, you have several children in close sequence.) In the event of a crash, your child will have the absolute maximum protection possible if you have him or her sitting in a car seat at the time. The complex system of seatbelts on a car seat is designed for comfort and absolute safety—restraining the child but not harming it in any way.
There is a difference of design between a car seat made for an infant and for a young child. The infant’s car seat will invariably be of the “bucket type, named this way because of the handle that allows for ease-of-transport of the infant into and outside of a car. One of the most controversial parts of a car seat is their interaction with the airbag. When placing an infant in the passenger seat, he must be placed back to the airbag so as to not cause suffocation in case of an accident. The occurrence of infant fatalities has caused laws to be enacted involving the proper placement of a car seat for your infant in the passenger seat area.
Purchasing a car seat is required by law for the transportation of infants and small children. Make sure you do not buy a second hand car seat as they will have a higher rate of failure. Remember: when children are involved, safety comes first.
