Race Cars
Everybody likes a good car race. The competitors look at each other with steely eyes as the engines rev up-then the three-count (or perhaps a pistol) and they are off! Tires screech and leave blackened marks-the car race has begun.
Everyone has seen some form of car race-whether it is in the movies, at an F1 track, or simply watching outrageously dangerous street racers make your neighborhood less safe. The car race is a diverse concept-NASCAR, F1, Paris-Dakar, Destruction derbies, etc-the list goes on. It is both a cultural and sports event that crosses the language barrier-indeed the sound of cars turning a corner in close competition is an internationally accepted symbol of the human struggle.
Ever since the conception of the automobile, the car race has been a pastime and obsession for our species. We wave flags, take sides, and sit in bleachers: our eyes are locked on the track, letting the to-and-fro hypnotize us. The technological development behind vehicles and their motors has also improved the quality and safety of the average car race. Watching the success of such "car stables" as Ferrari in car race after car race is truly an inspiration to engineering world-wide. The car race is also a symbol of our symbiosis with the machine-a car and its driver are the symbolic "man within the machine." This concept has been all-pervasive in the modern age to say the least. On another level, the car race is simply a social rejoicing in the modern age: people of all ages gather around to focus on one central concept.
Whether promoting togetherness or being an intellectual concept, the car race is here to stay-you can either love it or ignore a whole part of our global culture.
