Auto Racing
Auto racing is as old as automobiles themselves and is an activity that exists in multiple forms around the world. Auto racing's origins can be traced back to France in the late nineteenth century. Daimler, Benz and Maybach all entered the famed "Paris-Rouen" held in 1894 for the first time-this was the birth of "professional" auto racing. These humble origins differ greatly from the auto racing that most are familiar with today-in its varied forms.
Single-seater racing (especially Formula One) is one of the most acclaimed types of auto racing around today. The various Grand Prix held around the world, the plethora of sponsors, and the famed car "stables" such as Ferrari have propelled this form of auto racing to gigantic commercial proportions.
Rallies like "Paris-Dakar" have gained massive popular appeal and are televised around the world-indeed this type of auto racing may be the most rugged of them all. Composed of two-person teams who compete over long distances-rallies can be fun to watch and probably even more exhilarating to participate in.
"Touring" is another type of auto racing that has become fashionable-the contact between the cars excites crowds like no other type of auto racing can. The danger involved in this style of auto racing appeals to many fans of daredevil antics.
Drag racing, off-road racing, kart racing-there are so many different types of car racing, all of them with their own particular appeal and fan-bases. One thing is sure: auto racing is here to stay. Pick your favorite type and sit in excitable bleachers to watch the race. You won't regret it.
