The auto glass that makes up your windshield will no doubt be laminated-this makes it entirely shatter proof. The car glass that constitutes side windows and rear windows of your car will be tempered instead of laminated. Although they are not shatter-proof, they do shatter into small blunt cubes of auto glass which are designed to be harmless to humans if they happen to come into contact with them. This means that the tempered auto glass in these windows cannot be damaged and repaired: any side or rear window that has been broken needs to be replaced completely. This is the opposite of laminated auto glass which is designed to be repaired in the occurrence of a scratch or crack.
A good windshield made from quality auto glass should be able to withstand pebbles and gravel bouncing off the road without any permanent damage. One of the largest causes of auto glass repair or replacement is damage to the window done during attempted theft. No one likes to get their windows broken-it is important to choose good quality auto glass and be careful where you park your car. If in the aftermath of a collision or theft you need auto glass repair or replacement-make sure the quality is up to par.
